Foster book also states he was married to Sarah Jane Minerva Beach on 03 Mar 1861 in Vernon, Tolland, CT. She died 16 Sep 1916 in Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio. Sarah remarried to E. W. Webster.

National Cemetery Administration, U.S. Veterans Gravesites has Philip buried at Antietam, Maryland where he died at the Battle of Antietam. This memorial is most likely a cenotaph.
