Hall of Fame Professional Football Player. He played center for the Cleveland Browns from 1947 to 1956 and for the Detroit Lions from 1956 to 1957. Member of the prestigious Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 1985 which included such luminaries as Joe Namath and Roger Staubach. Played his college years at Marshall University and one year at Auburn. Served in the infantry in World War II.Most Valuable Player in the 1956 Pro Bowl. Another Hall of Fame player referred to him as an "immovable object" and one of the best players in the game.
