Elden E. (Sandy) SANDLIAN
Elden (Sandy) of Seattle, passed away peacefully at home on September 12, 2008 with his loving wife Ruth by his side. Sandy was born on April 4, 1926 in Hill City, KS to Jesse and Mildred Sandlian. He lived in the mid-west until his high school years. The war was on and Sandy was anxious to do his part. With an early graduation from Julesburg High School under his belt, he joined the Navy and was soon contributing as a Tail Gunner on a Curtis dive bomber. He spoke fondly of these times and enjoyed the life-long friendships of those with whom he served. After the war, Sandy attended college in Denver, CO. Though his major was Business, the fresh snow was tempting and Sandy became an avid skier. Sandy found success both personally and professionally in Los Angeles. Those years saw the birth of his first two daughters, Linda and Lisa as well as several successful partnerships in businesses. Never one to rest on achievement, he saw a business opportunity in Seattle and the chance to be with his daughters and grandchildren. In Seattle, he met and fell in love with Ruth Brecht. Bringing their families together and creating a beautiful life, they enjoyed 25 years of happiness. Sandy and Ruth shared an adventurous spirit. They traveled the globe, experiencing other cultures and wonders. Locally, they enjoyed boating. As Captain, he spent many vacations in the San Juan Islands with friends and family. In retirement, Sandy's competitive nature was satisfied with golf and he often organized "Family Olympics". Horseshoes, shuffle board and ping pong were among his favorites. He was a frequent champion and didn't hesitate to mention this if asked; lovingly teasing those, several decades his junior, whom he had beaten. The family competitive spirit won't be the same without him. His generosity, kindness and integrity will be long remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him. Sandy is survived by wife Ruth, and their eight children: Linda S., Lisa, Carl, Heidi, Marvin, Linda B., Bert, Kristine; he is also survived by his 20 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and his brother Darrell Sandlian of Los Angeles, CA. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Evergreen-Washelli Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 11111 Aurora Avenue N., Seattle, WA 98133.
