A lawyer that enlisted in the Confederate Army on 15 May 1861 at Thompson's Crossroads. He was elected first Lieutenant and promoted to Captain before the end of the year. He took leave for illness in January and February of 1862. Wounded while commanding his company at the Battle of Chancellorsville, he was kept out until December of 1863. On 6 March 1864 an appointment to Major was awarded. It was at that rank he commanded the 23rd Regiment of Virginia Infantry through July of 1864. He was wounded again at the Battle of Bunker Hill on 24 August 1864. General Early ordered him to report to General Imboden of the Cavalry in January of 1865. He was paroled at Columbia in Fluvanna County at the close of hostilities. Major Richardson went on to be the Commissioner of Revenue for Louisa County for thirty-seven years. His portrait hangs in their courthouse.
