Ernest "Ernie" Erickson, a life- long Troy resident and Co-owner and operator of Erickson's Market here, died about 7:20 a.m. today of an apparent heart attack.
Erickson played two rounds of golf Tuesday evening at the opening of the Elks men's golf league at Moscow. He obviouly felt some discomfort this morning and notified his son, who alerted other family members.
A gregarious, active man involved in the Democratic party and a former primary candidate for state representative, Erickson went into business with his father about 1950, after returning from World War II service in the Philippines.
He and his family continued to expand the market and in 1960 he merged with his business with that of his brother-in-law, Allen "Brick" Hunter proprietor of a clothing and drygoods store.
He was a member of the Kendrick Masonic Blue Lodge and the Latah County Shrine Club, the Moscow Elks and was past past president of the Latah County Chamber of Commerce. He attended the Lutheran Church.
Erickson was born Aug. 3, 1926, at Troy to Etta and Ruthford Erickson. He was graduated from Troy High School in 1944 and immediately entered the service. he attended the University of Idaho for a time following WWII.
He was married to Leda Ellis, June 11, 1948. She survives at the family home. Also surviving are two sons, Steven of Troy and Roger of Denver. Colo., and a daughter, Jane Erickson of Troy; a sister, Eldoris Hunter, and his mother, both of Troy, and two grandchildren.
