CM/Sgt. James H. Murphy (USAF Retired)
Funeral services honoring the life of CM/Sgt. James H. Murphy, 83, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday July 21, 2012 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Brother Donnie Vercher and Brother Freddie W. Williford. Interment will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2012 at the funeral home.
James was born in Minden, LA on March 7, 1929 to Thomas and Ruth Murphy. He passed away on July 18, 2012. He was a resident of Shreveport where he served as a Deacon at Ford Park Baptist Church. His primary focus in life was his faith in God, family, friends and country. He was fisherman and a Christian fisherman of people, bringing many into the family of Christ. He was an avid golfer, playing on courses throughout the nation. He was a Mason and served with the Shriners, he also was a member of the American Legion. He had many dear friends whom he loved. He served his country for 31 years in the U.S. Air Force, with a tour in Vietnam, serving as a Logistical Advisor for the Vietnamese Army he also served and flew with the Strategic Air Command's, Airborne Command and Control Squadron. After retirement from the service he became a postal employee, serving for 17 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Thomas L. Murphy; sisters, Monchie Ruth Parrish and Irene Winkle. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Betty Joan Dickerson Murphy; son, James Wesley Murphy and his children, Judith Marie Murphy, Joan Irene Pastorius and Jeanine Marie Ann West; daughter, Joan Irene Murphy Rozzell and her children, Jennifer Lynn Williams and Justin Edward Rozzell; brother, Edward Murphy; 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved as if they were his own.
