Velma R. Bluford, age 85, died Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at her residence. She was born May 17, 1930 in Okemah, Oklahoma to Olson A. and Mollie B. (Walker) Cypert.
She married Foxie W. Bluford on December 17, 1946 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on November 12, 1993.
She was primarily a homemaker but had worked as a sales representative with the Merrick Corporation and later worked at the Gore West Mini Storage. She was a 40 year volunteer with the American Red Cross and also volunteered at Reynolds Army Community Hospital. She was a past member of the Lawton Area Iris Society and had been involved with both Girl and Boy Scouts.
She is survived by five children and their spouses, Karen Walker, Wichita Falls, Texas, Deb Johnson and Rick, Shawnee Mission, Kansas, Randy Bluford and Toni, Erlanger, Kentucky, Kelly Bluford and Lisa, Denver, Colorado and Kathy Terral and Rick, Fayetteville, Arkansas; 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Terry L. Bluford, Kimberly and Ernie McConnell, Christopher Kattau, Brad Bluford, Rebecca Bluford, Erica Bluford, Lauren Bluford, Joshua Terral, Jonathan Terral, Jerrod and Erin Johnson, Justin and Jenny Johnson and Jessica Johnson; four great grandchildren, Bridgett, Megan, Mason and Coldon McConnell; her dog, Quincy.
Her parents, a son, Barry Bluford, a sister, Betty Lou Wiles and her son in law, Bill Walker, preceded her in death.
Funeral service for Velma R. Bluford will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 21, 2015 in Trinity Baptist Church with Bro. Eddie Coast, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Post Cemetery, Fort Sill.
