Boxer Rebellion Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Vinton, Iowa, he served as a Musician in Company E, 14th Infantry, US Army. On August 14, 1900, during the Battle of Peking, China, Musician Titus in the presence of his entire attacking regiment was first to scale the wall of the city. For his courage, he received an appointment to West Point. There, during his first year as a cadet, President Theodore Roosevelt for his gallant actions in China, awarded him the Medal of Honor on March 11, 1902. Titus graduated in 1905, was commissioned an officer in 1905, served 32 years in the Army and retired a Lieutenant Colonel in the 6th Army. He died at age 86 in Los Angeles, California.
