|Birth: ||Mar. 10, 1861|
South Carolina, USA
|Death: ||Jun. 16, 1924|
The 1880 census indicates his name to be John. The name James is in error on the headstone.
Mr. J. R. Banks died suddenly at his home at Gough, Monday while sitting in a chair on the front porch. He was home with his son, Mr. T.R. Banks. It is supposed that heart failure was the cause of his death. He had been ill health for a long time, but was able to go about the house and was at his store the evening before his death.
He was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist church for a long number of years and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. James was a farmer and lived most of his life in St. Clair, Georgia. He was married to Alice Banks and they had 16 children/10 living at the time of the 1900 census.
He is survived by four sons and three daughters; Mr. Hayden Banks of Savannah; Messrs Julian, Lansdell and Torbitt Banks of Burke County; Mrs. W.T. Harris, of Uvalda; Mrs C.E. Powell, of St. Clair; Mrs Clifford Lyons of Blythe, and a number of grandchildren.
The interment was at the Keysville cemetery Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. James E. Johnston, of Waynesboro Methodist Church.
