Laurania Sonia Hall Melons was born to Melvin C. and Ruby Debose Hall on January 17, 1948 in Jackson, Tennessee. Laurania was bright and charismatic from the start. She learned to read and write by the time she entered school at the age of four. Laurania's father was in the military so, Laurania had the opportunity to live and learn in Tennessee, overseas in Germany for two years and finally in Colorado.

Laurania attended Saint Mary's Catholic High School in Colorado Springs and graduated at the tender age of 15. Laurania continued her education at Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business in 1967. She would later earn a Master of Science in Business from the University of Phoenix. After graduating from Adams State, Laurania accepted a teaching position with the Denver Public Schools system. At the ripe age of 19, she started teaching at South High School. She retired from DPS in 1991 after 25 years of service.

Along her life's journey, Laurania met and, in February 1983, married the love of her life, Raymond "Bo" Melons. Together, with his three daughters, they became a family.

Ever the public servant, Laurania was proudly initiated into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in 1965 and, later, she and her mother were among the charter members of the Colorado Springs, CO Chapter. She thrived on Delta's community uplift targets and, until her illness would no longer permit, looked forward to traveling to its Regional Conferences, National Conventions and other meetings. Laurania also worked with the Denver Urban League as a fund raiser and job recruiter for people of color. One of Laurania's specialties and hobbies was planning social events for both organizations.

After a lengthy illness, Laurania went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 19, 2009. She suffers no more.
