Pfc Al Hiken was born and raised in Collinsville and attended the Collinsvile schools. After graduating from high school he was employed in the Hiken Bros. Furniture Company store.

He entered the service in January, 1944, and was assigned to the infantry at which time his wife moved to Granite City to live with her parents.

Pfc. Albert Hiken was killed in an auto accident at or near Camp Gordon, Georgia. He was survived by his wife and a three-year old child, his parents, and one brother, Staff Sergeant Sidney Hiken.
