Wendell Nichols was born in Moberly MO on February 4, 1910 to Willie Hodges Nichols and Gussie Morsey. Wendell came to Barstow TX with his parents as a six year old living on his Uncle Charlie's farm. He attended the Barstow School, a two-story red brick building. He played the trombone in the Barstow Public School Band and Orchestra. At school, he also ran the 880 yard dash and mile. In 1929, he attended Midland Business College, and in 1930 he went to Texas Technological College in Lubbock TX. He returned home home and went into farming partnership with his brother, Woodrow.
On June 25, 1934, Wendell married MarjorieBlack, daughter of Josiah and Donnie Black. They had one son, Charles Donald. In 1944, Wendell began work for the city as Water Superintendent of Barstow Water Works. He was a skilled craftsman. The family was active in the Presbyterian Church in Barstow. Wendell and Marjorie Nichols are buried in the Barstow Cemetery, Ward Co TX.
