Eugene is the son of Ted Garrett and Gladys Crabtree. Eugene Garret was in the back seat of a friends car when they decided to leave a gas station without paying and the man working there got one shot off at the car speeding away and hit him in the back of the head. He is survived by his parents and four brothers Jerry, Cletus, Dale, and Mike.

Gene Garrett of Kansas City, Mo., a nephew of Mrs. Anderson Rogers of Dyess, died in a Kansas City Hospital April 3 of gunshot wounds received April 1.
Dyess relatives said the 19 year old young man with two young friends had stpped at a service station to obtain gas and the station employee a negro, fired at the car when they drove off, Garrett was not the driver of the car, they said.
Services and burial were in Kansas City on April 6. Attending the services from Dyess were Mr. and Mrs. Anderson Rogers and Mrs. Don Rogers.
The victim leaves his parents Mr. and Mrs. Ted Garrett of Kansas City; four brothers, Jerry Garrett, Cletus Garrett, both of Kansas City, and Dale and Michael Garrett of the home; a maternal grandfather, Mr. Crabtree of Nebraska, a paternal Grandmother, Mrs. Annie Riggins of Memphis, Tenn.
The station operator was taken into police custody by the Kansas City Police. Relatives said he was held on a charge of murder.
