Television News Director. A native of New York City, he became instrumental in helping to create the popular news magazine, "60 Minutes," which premiered for the first time in 1968. He also donated the stop watch that you see at the beginning of the program. During his career at CBS he was noted for his coverage of national politics including conventions for both parties from 1976 to 1988, the Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, and Walter Mondale presidential debates, and election nights from 1974 to 1990. He passed away from cancer in Grandview-on-Hudson, New York. (bio by: K)
