Paul D. Anderson Jr., 89, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Ottumwa, died Nov. 28, 2011, at AmeriCare Hospice in Mesa, Ariz.

He was born Aug. 14, 1922, in Mt. Ayir. In 1942 he married Helen Beryl Peck of Blakesburg, and they were married 69 years. He grew up in Keokuk and Ottumwa. He learned to fly in the Civilian Pilot Training program before WWII and eventually earned a Commercial/Multi-engine rating. During the war he served in the US Army Air Force as a radioman in the 34th Heavy Bombardment Group based in Mendiesham, England. After the war, he and Beryl moved to Wichita, Kan., where he went to work for Boeing Aircraft Company. He was with Boeing for 32 years working on the B-52 bomber, Minuteman missile, Saturn V/Apollo, 747 and 767 programs. After his retirement in 1985, he was a volunteer with the Seattle Museum of Flight for another 20 years.

Paul is survived by his wife, Beryl of Mesa, Ariz.; a brother, John Anderson of Newton; a son, Lance Anderson of Grand Prairie, Texas; a daughter, Janet Anderson of Leland, N.C.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Sr. and Alice Anderson; and two sisters, Aileen Mataya and Virginia Terrell.

Memorial services will be at a later date.
The family requests that memorial gifts go to the Mighty 8th Air Force Museum in Pooler, Ga.
