A HERO REMEMBERED NEVER DIES

Sgt. Cecil J. Cash, along with his companion Cpl. Ray Heitmann, were murdered by Nazis at the Baugnez Crossroads near Malmedy, Belgium, on 17 December 1944 - the 2nd day of The Battle of the Bulge.

There is some controversy regarding Cecil's death date. I have done extensive research & have found documents which prove that he died on 17 December & not 19 December. The main information came from an eye witness statement from a local Belgian who was with Cecil when he was shot. Also from the unit history of the 197th.

I have donated all of the letters, pictures, keepsakes that he sent to my mother to the Baugnez44 Historical Center, Malmedy, Belgium & they have them on special display there in rememberance of Cecil.

You may also want to acknowledge Raymond A. Heitmann who was standing next to Cecil when they were both shot to death. Ray is buried in the Henry Chappelle Cemetery, Belgium & also has a memorial page on Find-A-Grave.
