Birth: 1844, Germany
Death: Jun. 6, 1865
Orleans Parish
Louisiana, USA

Son of Nicholas and Barbara Shoup of Johnstown,NY., he enlisted in the army on 8/22/1862 and mustered in 10/17/1862 as a private Company D 153rd Infantry. He died on June 6, 1865 at the Marine Hospital, New Orleans after being wounded at the Battle of Pleasant Ridge Hill on 4/9/1864 and taken prisoner. He apparently fought in several conflicts. He had blue eyes, black hair and stood 5'7". He had at least one younger brother, Martin and two younger sisters; Catherine and Margaret all born in America. He and his parents must have immigrated in June of 1852 from Germany to America because his father put that down on his naturalization papers. I would love to find the ship manifest records that might tell exactly what part of Germany he emmigrated from.
"Pvt Co. D, 153 NY Inf"

Note: First cousin 3X removed who arrived on the Meridian from Germany 1 June 1852.
