Birth: 1775
South Carolina, USA
Death: 1815
Anderson County
South Carolina, USA

General John Baylis Earle (10/23/1766 - 1/5/1836) was the eldest child of Col. John and Thomasine (Prince) Earle. He was probably born at Prince's Fort, Spartanburg Co, SC, and died at his home, Silver Glade Plantation, in Pendleton District (present Anderson Co, SC). In 1791 he married 16-year-old Sarah Taylor, daughter of Maj. Samuel Taylor (1740 - 1798) and Eleanor (Cannon) Hudgens. Taylor, the son of James and Hannah (Williams) Taylor of Pennsylvania, came to SC before the revolution and married Eleanor, a widow from Charleston.

No portrait of Sarah Taylor Earle is known to exist.
But her 3rd-great-granddaughter Marilee Earle, a former actress, most likely resembled her because descendants of Sarah’s sister Elizabeth Taylor Bolles bore an uncanny resemblance to Marilee Earle and frequently commented on the resemblance.

Sarah (Taylor) Earle died at Silver Glade in 1815, leaving 10 children:

Eleanor m. John T. Lewis
Hannah m. Thomas Harrison
Eliza Caroline m. Benjamin Franklin Sloan
Samuel S. m. Harriet Wright
Baylis Wood m. Eliza Harrison
Sarah Ann m. George Seaborn in 1828
Mary m. Robert J. Purvis

Maj. George Seaborn, from Greenville, SC, became a noted editor and publisher of "Farmer and Planter", a distinguished journal published at Pendleton, and represented Anderson Co. in the South Carolina Senate.
