She married Meredith S. Fifer 19 Feb 1864 in Virginia, and was the mother of Mollie J., Alvira Virginia, Helen, and George Fifer. The family moved to Iowa, where the oldest child was born (per census records), then to Montana in 1865 (that date must be wrong)

PIONEERS AT DEER LODGE ATTEND PIONEER'S FUNERAL
Many early settlers of the Deer Lodge valley attended the funeral of Mrs. Mary L. Fifer, the mother of the first white child in the valley. It was held yesterday afternoon from the family residence, 207 South Dakota Street, the Rev. E. J. Groeneveld officiating. The services of the Rebekah order were read at the grave. Interment was in Mount Moriah cemetery.
