WILDER - James E. Packard Jr., 84, died July 23, 2003, at the Veterans Affairs
Medical Center in White River Junction.

He was born March 17, 1919, in Wilder, the son of James and Daisey (Brown)
Packard.

He attended school in Wilder.

He married Beulah West on Dec. 26, 1945, in Dorset.

Mr. Packard worked for Al Graves at the Lyric Theater in White River Junction
and later at the Indian Bowl Restaurant in Hanover, N.H. He also worked as an
aide at the Veterans Hospital in White River Junction.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II.

Mr. Packard was a well - known musician in the area, and gave guitar lessons and
sold musical instruments for many years. He had a band since 1937, and played at
several clubs, dances, wedding receptions and on the radio. He also entertained
at local senior centers and nursing homes.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2571 in White River Junction
and the Moose Lodge in Springfield.

Survivors include his wife of Wilder; a son, James Packard III of Wilder; a
daughter, Cindy Stange of Maine; two sisters, Catherine Brooks of Wilder and
Elvira Williams of Oyster Bay, Long Island, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in
White River Junction. Burial will follow in Christian Street Cemetery in Wilder.

Friends may call Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knight Funeral Home.
