Lieut. G. deC. Chevalier, USN, was designated Naval Aviator #7 in 1915. Graduated U.S. Naval Academy, Class of 1910.

Member of First Aeronautical Detactment to France in June 1917. CO of NAS Dunkirk, France. A squadron commander in Northern Bomb Group.

Credited with the first trap (landing) aboard a U.S. aircraft carrier, the USS LANGLEY (CV-1), on 26 OCT 1922.

LCDR Chevalier's aircraft crashed near Lochaven, Va. on 12 NOV 1922. He died two days later at the Norfolk Naval Hospital.

Two destroyers were named in his honor. The first USS CHEVALIER (DD-451) was sunk due to enemy action in 1943. The second was DD-805. In addition, Chevalier Field at NAS Pencacola, Fla. was named in his honor.

Married Miss Marguerite Jackson on 14 June 1919.
