Visitation:12:00 p.m., Monday, October 23, 2006 until shortly before service time.
Graveside services for Zola Downs Penny will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 23, 2006 with Reverend Jim Lofton officiating. Burial will be in Alexandria Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria.

Pallbearers will be James Penny, Gary Hart, Jim Downs, JP Huestis, Dr. Leo Flynn and David Bonnette. Honorary pallbearer will be Thomas Hugh Downs.

Mrs. Penny, 97, of Alexandria died Tuesday, October 17, 2006 in her residence.

She was a member of Pineville Baptist Church; a charter member of Alexandria Chapter J. T. Charnley #197, Eastern Star. She was in the first graduating class of Bolton High School (1927); a graduate of Louisiana College (1931). Mrs. Penny taught at Forest Hill High School, Bolton High School, McComb High School (MS), Central Grammar, opened Alexandria Junior High School and retired in 1972.

She was preceded in death by her husband, M. H. "Bill" Penny.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, James Penny and wife, Debi of Mexico; daughter, Jan Ellen Penny Hart and her husband, Gary of Colorado; grandchildren, Penny Hart, J P and Darby Hart Huestis, Chantel Prat, Sharon Penny Crawford; great grandchildren, Cassie Crawford, Jasmine Prat and Zoe Hart Huestis; niece, Bobby Carol Hynson, nephew, Thomas Hugh Downs, nephew, James C. Downs, niece, Ann Downs, niece, Ellerene Galloway, nephew Hon. James Downs; special friends, Janet Blank Bonnette, Paula Blank, Peggy DeBard, Shelia Duncan, Alice Spurgeon, Faith Johnson, Mildred Stewart, Herbie and Leo Flynn, Mary Walker.

Friends may call Monday at Hixson Brothers, Alexandria from 12:00 p.m. until shortly before service time.
