AIKEN - Frank Ardrey, 83, former Aiken city council member died Sunday in a local hospital after a short illness.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church with burial in Bethany Cemetery.
Mr. Ardrey, a native of Fort Mill, was a son of the late John and Mary Massey Ardrey. Southern Railway station manager in Aiken from 1922-54, he served on the city council for 12 years. He was a Mason and Shriner receiving highest degree the Knight of York Cross of Honor in 1960. In 1963, Mr Ardrey received an award for outstanding service to recreation from the National Recreation Association for his introduction of tennis to area youth.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Blanche Lawrence Ardrey; a daughter, Mrs. Baker of Charlotte; and a son, Frank Ardrey Jr. of Birmingham, Ala.
