Oakland, MD - Richard Harold Archer, Sr., 93, of Oakland, MD, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Dennett Road Nursing Home.
Born December 29, 1919, in Parkersburg, WV, Mr. Archer was the son of the late John R. Archer and Rosetta (Vaucht) Archer, and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A United States Army Veteran of World War II, Richard retired from Cambridge Iron and Metal. He is survived by his sons: Richard H. Archer, Jr., and wife, Jean; Robert W. Archer, Sr., and wife, Virginia, all of Dundalk, MD; and Edris D. Archer and wife, Laura, Parkville, MD; his daughters, Harriet L. Helmick and husband, Glen, Thomas, WV; Kathy Hebb; Wanda Ratcliff and husband, Jay, all of Hagerstown, MD; Wilma Michaels and husband, William, Canton, MD; as well as 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. Richard also leaves behind his stepchildren: George Hebb and wife, Rachel; Rick Hebb and wife, Sharon; Sharlene Hebb; and Phil Hebb; as well as numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Sunday, June 2, 2013, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, June 3, 2013, at 10:00 A.M., with Reverend Eli Hostetler officiating. Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post #13 American Legion Honor Guard.
