Larry Dean McCarty, 12, son of Mrs. David McCarty Griffin of Seymour, was killed while hunting squirrels west of Newcastle, Texas. The youth died at the Olney hospital. Butch Crumbie, 15, also of Seymour, was hunting with Larry McCarty on an oil leased operated by W.C. Newton of Newcastle, Butch Crumbie's grandfather. The youths were hunting together with one rifle when the gun accidentally discharged.

Services were held at Calvary Baptist Church at Seymour officiated by Rev. Roy Moseley and Rev. Jerry Crumbie.
