Sir Catchick Paul Chater was a leading businessman in Hong Kong between 1866 and 1926. He was the mastermind behind the Praya reclamation on the waterfront in Hong Kong in 1890, and he was a director of every major company founded during his lifetime. Originally from Calcutta of Armenian parents he was orphaned at a very young age. He travelled to Hong Kong at the age if 18 and joined the Bank of Hindustan as a clerk. Hong Kong would not be the place it is today, without the contribution that Sir Paul Chater made to its infrastructure and economy.
