Jasper Perry served as a Confederate soldier during the Civil War. He enlisted at Dalton, Georgia along with his brother Crayton Bradley. These two, along with another brother, John J. were at the surrender at Vicksburg, Mississippi. All three men served in 36th (Broyles') Georgia Infantry. Jasper was a Sergeant.
On September 26, 1867 Jasper married Mary Josephine Winkle in Whitfield County, Georgia.
Jasper is again found in his parents household on the 1870 census of Whitfield County, Georgia. At this time, his wife Mary and son Thomas are also in the household. His occupation was given as "furnishing wood to the RR". His age was listed as 27 yrs.
Jasper and wife Mary Winkle Bradley came to Texas between the 27 June 1871 birth of their daughter Ida in Georgia and the date of death of Mary which occurred on 26 August 1875. Mary's father, Henry Winkle had earlier moved to Texas and died in what is now Franklin County in 1872. It may be that this family left Georgia just prior to his death or shortly afterward.
A family member related the story that after the death of Mary, Jasper Perry took his two children back to Georgia to live with his parents. After he married Mrs. Martha Ann Allen (nee Wall) on 6 January 1867 in Franklin County, Texas he returned to Georgia to bring his children home.
He was a farmer and a member of the Baptist Church. According to his death certificate he died of the flu.
His widow received a Confederate widow's pension from the state of Texas after his death.
He was the father of a son and a daughter by the first marriage. Three sons and one daughter were born of the second marriage.
