Bernard Ross Michaels of Aurora, a retired carpenter, died July 8 at his home. He was 76.
Memorial services were July 12 at Smoky Hill Baptist Church. There was cremation.
He was born November 27, 1922, in Yuma. He graduated from South High School. He served in the Army Air Forces during WWII and finished flight school at the University of Missouri. As a flight officer, he trained as a pilot and bombardier.
On June 19, 1948, he married Muriel Madeline Kouri. She preceded him in death.
After the war, Michaels attended the University of Colorado, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He left CU to join the carpenters' union and studied construction management at Colorado State University.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was involved in the construction of its building at East Hampden Avenue and South Monaco Street Parkway. He also served as a deacon to his wife, who was an ordained minister. They later helped build Smoky Hill Baptist Church.
Michaels taught construction classes at Emily Griffith Opportunity School for many years, then taught for the carpenters' union apprenticeship program. He also served on the advisory council for Aurora's Pickens Technical School for the last several years.
After he retired, he worked at Builders Square.
He is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Taylor, Arvada; two sons, Ross, Arvada, and Danny, Hygiene; a sister, Bernice Barnes, Corvallis, Ore; and four grandchildren.
