In 1854, the family emigrated to America. It took 19 weeks to arrive at New Orleans. They traveled up the Mississippi to Saint Louis, Missouri and then to Hermann, Missouri, settling in the Woollam area.

Infant b. 1860
The name was shortened to Sassmann. Henriette was in her last months of pregnancy when she fell from a horse. She gave birth to a stillborn and died several days later. They were buried in the same grave
