Army Capt. Tyler was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 6th U.S. Air Cavalry Regiment, Fort Lewis, Washington as an Army aviation officer. Tyler died in Multaka of injuries sustained when his Blackhawk helicopter crashed. Corry graduated from Camden County High School in Kingsland, Georgia, in 1995 at the top of his class and left for the U.S. Military Academy at West Point that summer. He graduated from West Point in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and completed aviator training in 2000. His first deployment to Iraq was in April 2003 and he was on his third tour of duty – scheduled to return to his home in Washington state in 2 months. His awards and decorations include two Bronze Stars, the Air Medal, Three Army Commendation Medals, Valorous Unit Award, Two National Defense Service Medals, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Air Assault Badge and Army Aviator Badge. Corry was a smiling, friendly young man who loved to make people laugh. As the sole male survivor in his family, he wasn't required to return to Iraq for the third time, but he volunteered. He loved God, his wife, Kathy, and their three children more than anything else and had hoped to go to medical school and become an Army physician. Corry's desire to be in the military took root because of the man he revered – his father. In 2006, his father died while he was in Iraq. He came home and was a rock for his mother. Corry will be buried next to his father – the man he idolized.
