The following information was obtained from the Tipton Public Library, Tipton, Indiana:
"This military stone marking the grave of this Civil War Veteran is located at the corner of 25 West and State Road 28.
History of this interment:
When it was reported to the DAR-EHA Cemetery Committee in 1978, by the former owner of the land this stone sets on, that their young son had once found a tombstone and human bones by a lilac bush behind their house, the committee obtained permission from the current and very surprised owners of the property to investigate the claim.
Their findings were as follows:
The Stone reads: Jesse Verguson - Co. C - 101 Ind. Inf.
There was no death record for this man in the Tipton County Records, but there was a Jesse Vergason of Tipton County who served in the Civil War, and did serve in the "101 Regiment, Co. C"
Mr. Vergason was mustered into service on August 15th, 1862 and discharged September 18th, 1862."
