Lloyd, Jr. was killed in midair collision near Topeka, Kansas. shortly after his graduation from West Point. " He was in a B-47 Flying School in Wichita Kansas at the time of his death. He grew up in the Philippine Islands, Jefferson Barracks (Missouri), Fort Benning (Georgia), Portland (Maine) and Washington D. C. On graduation from West Point he was commissioned in the Air Corps. and completed 65 combat missions in B-26 planes over Europe during WWII. He was decorated with the Air Medal and 12 clusters and his squadron received a Presidential Unit Citation. After the war he was on duty at Tampa, Florida, Rapid City, So. Dakota, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Washington D. C., Brussells, Belgium, Maxwell AFB, Alaska, Barksdale AFB, Louisiana. He was graduated from the Adjutant General's School at Fort Oglethorpe and the Air Command and Staff Schools at Maxwell AFB."
