Duane H. Luebe, 81, of Clinton, Iowa, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Mercy Living Center South, Clinton.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Clinton. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2012, at Immanuel Lutheran Church where a Rose Croix will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.

Duane was born April 14, 1931, in Pierce, Nebraska, the son of Edward and Esther (Koehler) Luebe. Duane received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Wayne State College, Wayne, Nebraska. He married Dorothy Kathryn Coffey in Wiley Colorado on April 19, 1958; she died March 13, 1987. He later married Marilyn Linner on June 18, 1988, in Clinton, Iowa.

Duane was employed as a business education teacher and coached football and track in Akron, Iowa; North Platte, Nebraska; and Clinton High School for 39 years, his last 35 years in Clinton.

Duane was a 1949 graduate of Pierce Nebraska Public Schools, he lettered in football three years, basketball three years and track two years. His high school football record for three years was 24 wins and 0 losses. He was a four-year letterman in football at Wayne State and played a total of 33 games without a loss. He was an all-conference back his senior year and was contacted by the Pittsburgh Steelers professional football team to play professional football but instead was drafted into the United States Army following graduation from college. Duane was a United States Army veteran.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served as church council president, vice president and financial secretary. He was a member of Emulation Lodge #255, Clinton Consistory and Kaaba Shrine.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, of Clinton, IA; children, Carolyn Luebe of Camanche, IA; Jim (Beth) Luebe of Colorado Springs, CO; Ed (Christine) Luebe of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Susan (Nick) Thompson of Cedar Falls, IA; grandchildren: Doug, Greg, and Mark Luebe, Melissa (Ben) Harkness, Grant and Trevor Luebe and Steven, Zack and Ryan Thompson; great-granddaughter, Addy Harkness; brother, Waleen Luebe of Pierce, NE; sister, Elvira Whitney of Apple Valley, CA; stepchildren, Susan Linner of Denver, CO; Pam (Dave) Carson of St. Louis, MO; and Eric (Michele) Linner of Crystal Lake, IL; stepgrandchildren, Ryan (Maureen) Carson, Laurie Carson and Kristen, Megan and Robyn Linner.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
