|Death: ||Feb. 28, 2011|
Jose Felix Zamarripa passed away on February 28, 2011 at the age of 71 years. He was surrounded by his family and friends. Jose went by several names growing up: Nene, Joe, El Senor and Bully. As time passed his nephews, nieces and grandchildren lovingly referred to him as Papa Bully and the name stuck.
He was born in San Antonio, Texas and settled in the Coachella Valley as a child with his family in 1946. He was a graduate of Coachella Valley High School, class of 1959 in which he played for the football team his senior year. Papa Bully worked for John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Indio and then later worked for Sunkist Growers in Thermal. Papa Bully was an avid Angels baseball fan and Dallas Cowboys fan, country western movie fan, and Tejano music fan. In his spare time he enjoyed tinkering with small engines and enjoyed making small airplanes out of empty beer cans. He relished the time he spent on his family's ranch often citing the peace and tranquility he found there and always found time to assist with the upkeep of the property.
He is survived by Alicia Zamarripa, his wife of 41 years; his sister Isabel; his sister Olivia; his brother Albert; his brother Tony; his sister Mariana; his sister Leah; his sons and daughter Little Bully, Cano, Thoy, and Rosita. He is also survived by four grandchildren Alex, Cerila, Anthony and Andrew. Papa Bully is preceded in death by his parents Felix and Maria Zamarripa and his brother Miguel Zamarripa.
