Lavina Munroe Campbell grew up in Saguache, Colorado. One of her older school mates was James Perry Campbell. The Campbell family moved to Roseburg, Oregon in 1898. Lavinia and Ped were married on 9 April 1902 in Portland, Multnomah Co, OR. They lived in Oregon a few years, then moved back to Saguache County, Colorado.

Lavinia and Ped were sheep farmers and ranchers for several years in the high Rockies near Cotchetopa Pass, CO. They also owned a resort there with Ped's sister and brother-in-law, Fannie and Bud Noland. The Nolands had the upper ranch and the Campbells, the lower ranch. This was the famous Banana Ranch.
