Joseph Philo b. 12 Nov. 1770, in Conn., m. 1st, Lucy Benedict of N. Y. state, prob. Duchesse or Sa. Co., d. 1821, 2nd rn. 1822 at Hamilton, N. Y., Mrs. Mary (Peck) [Colwell] [wid. of Elisha] b. 27 May, 1787, d.18 Dec. 1865. He d. 5 May 1850. It is probable he was born at Norwalk, Conn., and moved with his father to Dover, N. Y., then to Sa. Co. He remained there until 5 chil. were born, which was after 1803, when he moved to Tioga Co., N. Y. where his 1st wife d. and he soon after m. wid. Colwell.
He moved from Tioga Co., to Ohio 1829, with a 3-horse team. He was one of the early pioneers of the west. His load consisted of himself and wife, his daut'rs Lydia, Sally and Lucy Philo, also Benj. and Joseph Colwell, and 2 sister Colwells. He cleared a farm from a wilderness and failing on his last payments lost it. They both died (Joseph and Mary) at Sandusky Co., Ohio.
He moved from Tioga Co., to Ohio 1829, with a 3-horse team. He was one of the early pioneers of the west. His load consisted of himself and wife, his daut'rs Lydia, Sally and Lucy Philo, also Benj. and Joseph Colwell, and 2 sister Colwells.
