Clifton "Cliff" Roscoe Moore, 89, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, in Klamath Falls, Ore., after a long struggle with cancer.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 17, at 1 p.m. at New Horizon Christian Fellowship. Pastor Mike Voight will officiate. Burial will take place at Klamath Memorial Park with reception to follow.
Cliff was born on June 21, 1919, in Lincoln, Ark., to Samuel and Emma (Jordan) Moore.
Both of his parents died when he was very young, and he was raised by his older brothers. In 1936, Cliff followed his brothers to Klamath Falls and began working at Weyerhaeuser. Not long after, he married (Esther) Wilma Keck, also from Arkansas.
During World War II, he moved back to Arkansas to farm for four years. He then returned to Weyerhaeuser briefly, but left that firm and moved to Los Angeles, Calif., for one year. He returned to Klamath Falls and the timber industry and became a log scaler for Modoc Lumber Co. in 1948. He held various positions at Modoc Lumber, with his last position being general plant superintendent until his retirement in June 1984.
Cliff and Wilma had two children, Shirley Moore Richardson and David Richard Moore.
Mr. Moore enjoyed farming, raising livestock, especially his cows, and gardening throughout his life. He also enjoyed organizing and coaching Babe Ruth baseball in the 1950s and joined his team, Superior Troy Laundry, at regional tournaments in Portland and in Kellogg, Idaho, in 1957. He thoroughly enjoyed working with the young people on his team.
Cliff was an active member at Bible Baptist Church and often helped out at the church or at their summer camp location.
Cliff always had an easy laugh and smile for everyone. He enjoyed being around people and was always on the go, though never too far from his wife Wilma, his farm and his animals. In the last few years, he enjoyed and took great pride in his great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Wilma; his daughter Shirley Richardson of Klamath Falls; his sister Nora Abner of Arkansas; grandchildren Mark Richardson and his wife Janet, Carol Thompson and her husband Tyler, Ben Moore and his wife Kim, Marlena Moore Hansen, and Sara Moore; daughter-in-law Lavern Moore. He also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and a lifetime of good friends.
He was preceded in death by his son David Richard, brothers Tinker, Pratt, Hill and Tony and sisters Goldie and Myrtle.
Visitation is at Davenport's Chapel on Thursday, April 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. Davenport's Chapel of the Good Shepherd, directors, is in charge of the arrangements.
