Perished at the Battle of Knoxville-Fort Sanders
Confederate Civil War records indicate he was 23 at the time of enlistment in 1861. Mustered into service on April 20, 1861, in Duck Hill Mississippi., by Capt. P. F. Liddell, and called into the service of the Confederate States on May 26, 1861 at Corinth, Mississippi. He reported for duty to Capt. Sykes at Corinth on May 28th, for a 12 month period of service. His Civil War records show he died on 20 September 1861, contrary to the memorial of Civil War Dead at the Battle of Knoxville, dated November 1863.
(Note: I haven't been able to find any record of a Daniel Linville in Mississippi in the 1850 or 1860 Federal Census, so I'm not able to tie him to any of his family members. This is unfortunate, as he should be remembered.)
