A life-long resident of Cobb County, Mrs. Merritt retired from Shamrock Knitting Mills where she worked as a seamstress. She was a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church in Dallas, GA and was a singer with the Casteel Family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Junior Merritt, daughter Mary Elaine Conley, brother Leo Ezelle "Sonny" Casteel, Jr. and parents Leo and Blanche Casteel.
Survivors include her children Larry Towns of Powder Springs, Kathy Newton of Auburn, GA and Sherrie McDaniel of Maine; brother Leon (Shirley) Casteel of Douglasville; sister-in-law Janet Casteel; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
