Charlie Greene, 79, of Asheville, died on Friday, September 7, 2012, at the John F. Keever Solace Center.
An Asheville native, Mr. Greene was a son of the late John Greene and Marie Carter Greene Crowder. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Easter Plemmons, Betty Powers and Mary Ruth Hamilton; brothers, Lawrence Greene and Robert Greene; and granddaughter, Stacy Farmer.
Mr. Greene retired from Winn Dixie, where he worked as a store manager. He attended Newbridge Baptist Church, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Aileen Nix Greene; daughters, Donna Lipe and husband Gary, Darlene Davis and Steve Massie, Rita Nix, and Kathy Redmond and husband Mike; son, Mark Nix and wife Robin; sisters, Mae Long, Bobbie McLean, Johnnie Parker, and Ellen Pike and husband Elbert, all of Asheville, Margaret Lloyd and husband Jack, of Ocala, FL, and Anne Garrett and husband Jim, and Martha Cooper, both of Fairfax, VA; grandchildren, Tommy and Corey Lipe, Kristi Hodges and husband Ryan, Nathan Farmer and wife Anna, Leslie Payne and husband Ricky, and Colby and Tyler Nix; great-grandchildren, Grace, Josie and Colton Farmer, Tessa and Taegan Payne, and Wyatt Hodges; and special aunts, Evelyn Cushen and husband Merrill, and Opal Buell.
A graveside service for Mr. Greene will be on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with the Rev. Clark Henderson officiating, with military honors performed by the Buncombe Co. Veterans Council and the North Carolina Honor Guard. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
His family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave.
