U.S. Marine Corps Pfc. Nicholas "Nick" M. Skinner, 20, of Davenport, gave his life for his country Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, in Najaf, Iraq. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at the mortuary. Burial with military honors will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Nicholas Maloy Skinner Memorial Fund.
Nick was born April 27, 1984, in Davenport, to Randy and Laura Skinner. He graduated in 2003 from North Scott High School, Eldridge, Iowa. He also attended West High School, Davenport. Nick was a boy you could never say no to. He loved hunting, fishing and camping, regardless of the weather. He was a true outdoorsman who always loved a challenge.
Nick never missed a family gathering and especially enjoyed Halloween. He won several trophies at arm wrestling competitions. He enjoyed skateboarding. Nick was always considerate of his family and many friends with his highest priority his family. Nick loved his country and was proud to be a Marine. HOORAH.
Those left to honor his memory include his father, Randy (Kerri) Skinner, Davenport, and mother, Laura Hamann, Park View, Iowa; brother, Raymond James Skinner, Davenport; sister, Stephanie L. Skinner, Park View; other brothers and sisters include Austin Skinner and Linda Mae Skinner both of Davenport, and Elizabeth and Dexter Hamann, both of Long Grove, Iowa; grandmothers, Mary Wages, Gainesville, Mo., and Shirley Skinner, Bettendorf; several aunts and uncles; and a niece and nephew and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Raymond R. Skinner and Robert L. Wages.
The family would like to thank Pfc. Stephen Vincent for carrying Nick's spirit home to his family and friends.
