Fred was the ninth of nine children born to Giglio Catanzariti and Marianna Spanò in Bovalino, Reggio Calabria, Italy. He immigrated to the U.S. on April 23, 1912 and joined his brother, Sam, in Lorain Ohio. He married Maria Rosa (Rose) Gallo in Hillsville, Lawrence County, PA on Feb 12, 1916 and settled in Lorain where he raised nine children.
