Reinhard Schottmueller, was born on 22 August 1840, in Baden-Baden, Germany, to Gabriel and Martina Schottmueller.

Reinhard has been married twice. Little is known of his first marriage other than it most likely took place in or around Baden-Baden. He was the father of two children, who had immigrated to America, with Reinhard and his second wife, Helena Wirth Schottmueller, in 1880.

Reinhard and Helena were married on the 31st of December 1876, at the village Catholic Church in Rothenfelz, Baden-Baden. Helena was the daughter of Lucas Wirth.

By 1880, Reinhard had made the decision to leave Germany and immigrate to the United States. Passed down from generation to generation is one of the reasons for leaving Germany, was so his sons would not have to grow up and fight in the Emperor's Army.

So it was in 1880, the Schottmueller family, including Reindhard, Helena, his two children from his first marriage, and their two sons, Markus and Johan would set sail for America, in hopes of finding a better life for all.

How strange and paradoxical that a father's decision to leave his homeland, and bring his family to a land of freedom, would be the source of such tragedy, in the years to follow.

Upon their arrival in the United States, their son Peterus Heinrich (aka: Peter) was born in 1881; followed by the birth of Franz Joseph (aka: Frank), in 1883. Their first daughter, Katharina was born in 1885, followed by the birth of their second daughter, Franziska Agatha, in 1886

On October 12, 1888 Reinhard became an official citizen of the United States of America, according to a document issued by the State of Missouri, City of St. Louis, in the St. Louis Criminal Court. Reinhard swore that he would support the Constitution of the United States, and "that he doth absolutely renounce and abjure, forever, all allegiance and fidelity to every Foreign Power, Prince, State and Sovereignty whatsoever, and particularly to the Emperor of Germany, of whom he was subject, therefore the said Reinhard Schottmueller is admitted a Citizen of the United States."

The following year, Reinhard and Helena's son Georigo Martin Schottmueller, was born in 1889. Daughter Helena Emielia, in 1891; and Kristina Gertrude, in 1893, and last but not least, by little Maria Schottmueller, born in 1894.

All the children born in St. Louis had been baptized and confirmed at St. Laborious Catholic Church, in St. Louis. All were buried in Calvary Cemetery.

Sadly, what once was dreamed of being a better life, ended in tragedy for each of Reinhard and Helena's sons, and two of their daughters.

Reinhard, who had sought to find a better life for his children, and toiled as a laborer to do so, became ill in January 16, 1914. he died of Broncho pneumonia on the 1st of February 1914, at the St. Louis Sanitarium, St. Louis, Missouri. He was 73 years, 5 months, and 11 days old.

Reinhard was buried at Calvary Cemetery, on the 4th of February 1914.
