Peterus Heinrich Schottmeuller was the third born son of Reinhard and Helena Schottmueller. His mother wrote in her prayer book, the following passage, after his birth: "...is born on September 1881, under the sign of Wasserman, in the evening at 7:00."

"Peter", as he preferred to be called, grew up in St. Louis, and worked as a laborer, until he was struck in the head by flying bricks, during a tornado.

Sadly, he was injured so severely, that he suffered extensive brain injury and which permanently affected his mental abilities the rest of his life.

He spent many years at the City Asylum, located on Arsenal Street, in the City of St. Louis, as an "inmate" ~ a term used by census enumerators, to describe patients, in the 1920's and 1930's.

Peter died on the 27th of October 1947, while an "inmate", of the City Asylum, according to family sources. He was buried at Calvary Cemetery, on October 30, 1947, at age 66.
