Herman Jewell Gardner, 87 years old, of Charleston, formerly of Anniston, died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Host House in Charleston. he was born February 8, 1887, at Jonesboro, Arkansas, son of the late George Turner and Nannie Gardner.

His wife, Agnes Harris Gardner, preceded in death, as did two daughters and a son.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mac McClendon, Anniston, and Mrs. Victoria Roy, Norris City, Illinois; brothers, Raymond Gardner of Chula Vista CA, and Robert Gardner of Nashville TN; half brother, Jack Gardner of Wood River Illinois, sister-in-law, Mrs. Ethel Gardner of Cairo Illinois; two half sisters; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.

Mr. Gardner was a retired house mover.

The body is at Shelby Funeral Home in Charleston, where friends may call.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. this afternoon at the funeral home with burial in Arlington Cemetery, KY.

Rev. Robert Burke, of the Bertrand Methodist Church, will officiate.
