PVT, US ARMY WORLD WAR I

George was born in Pierce County, Wisconsin, and moved with his family to Rusk County, Wisconsin, when he was five years old. His parents were Henry Mewhorter and Lillie Dell Howard Mewhorter. His brothers and sisters were William, Benjamin, Winnie (Eva Winnifred), Alice, Forrest and Harry (Robert Harry).

As a young man he came to Minneapolis where he lived for the remainder of his life. He worked most of his life as a Twin City Transit Streetcar Motorman and later as a bus driver. After retirement he sold Real Estate and became Vice President for a developer.

At age 25 George married Sophie Zawaski (Zawadzki), and became the father of four sons and a daughter. Lawrence, the eldest, died in action in WWII in Germany at age 23. He was a tank commander in the 42nd Tank Battalion, Company D, U.S. Army. Richard, the second son, also served in the Army. The other two sons, Frederic and Henry (Jack) served during the war in the Merchant Marines. All are now (2011) deceased. Margaret, the youngest, resides in Rochester, MN. (2018)

George was a very kind man, well liked by all who knew him.

He married a second time June Olson.
