The following is from the Commerative Biographical Record of Clearfield County, Pa. and is taken from the section about Isaac F. Bloom

Abram Bloom, the father of our subject, was a native of Germany, and was quite small when his father, Herbert Bloom, emigrated with his family to America and relocated in New Jersey, where he grew to manhood and married Miss Nancy Freeman. There most of his children were born. Being in limited circumstances, he first came to Clearfield Co., Penn., on foot and purchased a small tract of land in Jordan Township. In 1832, with his household effects and family in a one-horse wagon, he removed to his new home, erected a cabin, and at once commenced to transform the heavily-timbered tract into a productive farm. Being a natural mechanic, his services were often in demand in the sparseley-settled region where few artisans then found, and he manufactured many sleighs, repaired and did other work in wood and iron. After residing there for about ten or tweleve yeares, he went to Harrisburg where he worked for a time, but soon after died in Cumberland Co. Penn. leaving his widow and several small children to support, and only about 15 acres of the farm under cultivation. With the exception of our subject, she managed to keep her children together, and made her home on the farm for many years. Subsequently it was divided between the two eldest sons, and she went to live with her children, dying at the home of one of them, at the age of 73 years. She was a consistent member of the Presbyterian Church. The father was 93 when called to his final rest. In their family were the following children: William T., now deceased; John F., Peter, living in Iowa; La Fayette, deceased; Jacob, who was a union soldier in the Civil War, and is now a famer in Iowa; Isaac F. of this sketch; Abram, Hannah, deceased; Mary J.; and Elizsabeth, deceased.
