Born in Richmond, VA on December 25, 1943, "Lee," as he was known growing up, was the eldest of three children born to Bernice (nee Mann) and Russell Lee Jefferson. After attending High School in Richmond, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. After serving his country honorably, he moved to New York City to pursue his deep-rooted passion for security services and law enforcement.

After almost 15 years in the Security Department at Calvary Hospital in The Bronx, NY, he joined Mid-City Security in Lefrak City, NY in 1987 and was ultimately deputized as a Special Patrolman by the NYPD. Concurrently, John rose through the ranks of Queens' 106 Precinct's Auxiliary Police Division where he served for over 35 years and reached the rank of Auxiliary Lieutenant.

John is survived by his wife, Dory, his daughter Dalisay (Dee), his son Nolasco (Nick) Stevens, Sr. and his wife Rachael and their two children Nick Jr. and Marshall; his son Bryan and his wife Jennifer and their three children Samuel, Gabriel and Daniel; his son Michael; his sister Cora Jackson; his brother Russell, his mother-in-law Eugenia, three sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, two aunts, one uncle and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Marie, two sons, John Jr. and Eugene, and his daughter Towanda. John was extremely loved and very well respected by his family, peers, colleagues and all whoever met him. He will be laid to eternal rest at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, NY on Thursday, November 10, 2011.
