Melissa Ellen Bailey, 40, of Springfield passed away Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at home surrounded by her family. There will be no formal services. Melissa was born Dec. 16, 1970, to Charles and Kathy Bailey of Springfield. She graduated from Belle High School in 1989 and received a bachelor's degree in English from Drury University in 1996, touting many writing awards. Melissa will be remembered for always having a kind, giving spirit and a refreshing sense of humor. Melissa is survived by her father, Charles; her brother, Chuck Bailey of Springfield, and his wife, Laurie, and children Adam and Allison; and her sister, Terri Eiffert of Columbia, and her husband, Greg, and children Samantha, Leah and Kayla. She was preceded in death by her mother, Kathy, in February 2011. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Southwest Missouri, 1701 S. Campbell, Springfield, Mo., 65807, to a memorial fund in the name of Melissa Bailey.
