In July of 1955 she separated from her husband and flew with her children to Sebastopol, California to reside with her father, pending divorce. She was employed most of her life at the State Hospital in Sonoma. In 1959 she married Theodore (Ted) May, a military veteran, who adopted her sons Mike and Gary and gave them his name. Ted May passed away in 1962, and was given military honors at his memorial.
Kay’s son Mike passed away with health issues in July of 1987. Son Gary married Diane Lee Proctor and had a son, Eric Lee May, and a daughter Cassie Lee May. Kay’s brother Russ came to live with the family, moving out from Terre Haute, and was with her at the time she passed. Kay enjoyed her grandchildren and family, and pursued her passion for art, creating many beautiful paintings that adorn the walls of many family and friends. She battled Cancer for some time at the end of her life, and passed away at home in July 2014. A beautiful spirit, she will be missed by many.
